Ashwin Jose: The Macro Master and a Lover of Film

Meet Ashwin Jose

Mid June, GPAD opened it’s doors to external submissions worldwide. We were hungry to find out what people are passionate about, and being based in the UK, meant we were restricted somewhat in regards to who we can meet with and document ourselves.

We set up a Project on the platform ‘We The Project’, in the hopes that we would be able to find people from around the world who wanted to share a little about themselves, their story and their interests.

And are we glad we did!

Ashwin Jose was one of the first submissions we received and we loved his detailed Macro shots as well as those juice landscape/nightscape photographs.

Below you’ll find just a selection of images he sent over.

Q & A

Whenever possible, we try and get a quick Q & A with featured people, so we can delve a little deeper into their interests and passions. It’s also nice to find out more about new people you come across and get a feel of their past, their aspirations and some of the quirkiness that makes it all possible.

Here’s mine and Ashwin’s chat together:

Hi! So, before we begin, what’s your name?

I’m Ashwin Jose

Where are you currently based?

Malappuram, Kerala, India.

Any unusual or bizarre nicknames your known as?

No such thing.

What is your current occupation?

I am currently doing my Masters in Visual Effects and run a small YouTube channel known as ‘AZ Media Works‘.

What is your dream job/vocation?

My dream job is to become a Travel Photographer/Videographer. That job has all my passions and will always be happy doing it.

If you could describe your favourite passion in one word, what would it be?

FILM

Let’s forget about the one word answer, what is your passion? Be as short or as detailed as you’d like.

The most passionate thing is playing around with Cameras; that be photography or videography. Traveling around the globe is another passionate thing I’d always love to do.

What got you interested in this particular passion?

Don’t actually know what drove me into this. But since the first day I used a camera, I fell in Love with it. Same is about travelling. Loved it since my childhood.

Any particular ‘idols’ from your favourite passion? People that inspire you and motivate you?

Parker Walbeck is the one that inspired me a lot in Cinematography and Film Making. Peter Mckinnon is the one in Photography. Eric Pare & Kim Henry are the ones in Light Painting Photography. Zach King and Andrew Kramer in Visual Effects.

What else gets you excited? Could be other passions, a hobby - anything you deem relevant?

Basketball, Music, Reading, Nature, Visual Effects, CG, Simulations and many more areas of my main passions, like Time-lapse Photography, Photographing the Milkyway, Light Painting and the list goes on.

Can you tell me about some brands/companies or products which you love?

In today’s world, we are constantly connected to apps, websites and so much more through social networks and smart phones. Which apps, websites etc do you use on a daily basis and why?

Most used is Instagram, to share my photographs, YouTube for my videos and Whatsapp to text friends.

What is something about yourself that you hope will change?

The way I present my works.

Where would you like to visit in the future and why?

I am pretty sure that this list will go on forever as I Love to travel. Some of the places in my preferences are Iceland, Ireland, Australia, Bali, Utah, Niagra etc

What do you think about more than anything else?

Cameras and Filmmaking

How do you FEED YOUR PASSION? (Things you get up to which involve your passion in some way, large or small)?

I always try to do something related with my passions, whether it be doing some macro photography, creating small travel films, trying new photography ideas and learning more about improving the things that I am passionate in.

We’ve all got a past, full of highlights, low points and everything in between. If you had the power to go back in time and change one thing in your own past, what would it be?

I don’t think there’s anything that I’d like to change about my past. I’d rather change my future.

What’s your favourite music right now?

Are you a creature of habit or an adventurous soul?

More of an adventurous soul , I think.

Can you give us some examples of things that have ‘amazed’ you?

Nature is the one that always amazes me. It has a lot to explore and learn.

Which books/blogs are you currently reading/watching or planning to checkout?

More into watching web series like Westworld, Money heist, Sherlock etc these days.

When making an entrance to a party/gathering, do you make your presence known? Do you slip in and look for someone you know? Do you sneak in quietly and find a safe spot to roost?

Mostly do slip in and look for someone I know.

What are the top THREE qualities that draw you to someone? (doesn’t have to be sexually, more in terms of intrigue/interest etc).

No idea at all.

What’s your all-time favourite place to visit?

From all the place I have ever visited, Munnar stands the favorite in my heart. I don’t actually get the reason why I love that place so much, but I am sure to visit there many more times in my life. I still think it can change over time as there are many more places for me to travel.

Anything else you’d like to add Ashwin?

Yeah, my links are below if you want to see my work and get in touch. Most of my work, photography and filming is all made with a smartphone as that’s the only gear I have with me right now.

There were days when I thought I needed the best gear to make a start and produce something ‘good’. But I proved myself wrong when I started to use what was available to me.

Don’t let tools limit your creativity!

Thanks for your submission Ashwin, we loved your music selection, your macro shots of all the creepy crawlies and it’s great to have you here on the platform.

You really don’t need to bog yourself down with always seeking the best gear! Does it help? Ofcourse! Is it necessary? No, not when telling a story is your primary focus.
